Llechog Buttress

It was the first weekend in March, one week after our North Buttress climb on Buachaille Etive More. There had been one of those deep dumps of powder snow Wales tends to get once per winter. Snow lay deep and fluffy right down to the road. The Snowdon peaks were far whiter than those of Glen Coe the previous weekend.

Llechog Buttress stood proud and blasted white. The route is a classic summer scramble and follows the sharp lefthand crest. Under deep snow the Welsh mountains look spectacular but it also makes the walk in so much more of a slog. So Iain, Ashley and myself donned our packs and zig zagged our way up the slope to the base of the buttress.
